Bio

Born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico, this young lady who is only 27 years old left everything behind and boarded a plane to New Jersey in pursuit a dream, to work in radio.  A graduate of Kean University, Ana Maria began her career in the college radio station WKNJ 90.3FM with a 2 hour show called “The Reggeaton Mix”. The show helped to showcase her abilities as a DJ from 2001 to 2005. Later WKTU 103.5FM offered her the opportunity to complete an internship which later became a job offer.  At WKTU 103.5FM she started as a promotions assistant, contest coordinator and work her way up.  A year later she worked as the show producer for Diane Prior and Judy Torres and was part of the KTU family for three years.

During this time Ana Maria met Tony Armas CEO of MalaFama Entertainment these two had the same passion for reggaeton music and they created an instant bond that have become a friendship since 2003.  MalaFama Ent is the umbrella that holds several divisions from webgraphics, artists, DJ, MC’s, Models, Magazines and much more.  In 2004 with long time friend Ray from Capicu Ent. they flew to Puerto Rico and created the Documentary called MalaFama Justas 04’.

Ana Maria wanted to work for a station that fit in more with her personality like Mega.  Everything changed one lucky day with one phone call and 5 interviews later, the Promotions Director saw something special in her and then the party began with Mega.

For three and a half years, Ana Maria traveled throughout the tri-state area filled with energy, charisma,  lots of humor and of course with the microphone glued to her hand. She was better known in MegaYork as “La Nena” of  Mega.  A year after starting to work in Mega she was added as part of the 1# Radio show in NYC El Vacilon De La Mañana where she was on air, she did stunts and was also behind the scenes assisting the producer and associate producer of the show for two and a half years.

With all the love and experiences she received at El Vacilon de La Manana & Mega she started to realize that it was time to move on and have her own show.  She proceeds to go on a journey to find her new place in the radio industry.  An old co-worker and media entrepreneur named Vic Latino gave her the opportunity to do exactly that… The new face on the block commanded El Jangueo con Ana Maria Monday to Friday 11AM-3PM on La Nueva Fiesta 98.5/96.9FM  in Long Island, Conneticut & South Jersey 1490AM.  Due to her success she was later moved to afternoon drive 1 to 6pm.  Recently she was promoted to Programming Director of the station another milestone that establishes this young girl determination & passion for radio.

Her work has open the doors of theater, doing her first performance under the direction of Minerva Perez Scelza who heard her radio show and offered her a part in the play The Vagina Monologues that took place March 28th  of last year in Long Island Ny.

Ana Maria also writes a monthly column called Mi Life between 20 & 30 for the newspaper Voz Latina.
